People behind this summer’s action sci-fi flick Prometheus are spending money from left to right and center. Viral videos, promotions and websites that tell the tale of things that probably wont even be mentioned in the film itself are all other the web and making the buzz.
While set in the universe established by the Alien film franchise, Prometheus stands on its own and has another story to tell. To get you started and your sci-fi juices running much of the backing information is already told in the Weyland Industries, Project Prometheus and related promotional websites.
And then there are the videos. First of, a TED inspired futuristic TEDTalk by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) to set the tone for the whole Alien obsessed Weyland Industries. Then the Verizon powered walkthrough of David (Michael Fassbender) to add all the android related uneasiness. With obvious name dropping and product placing both of the videos are viral as hell as well as amusing.
Directed by Ridley Scott, Prometheus is only the second film in the franchise to be directed by the guy who started all the Alien madness 33 years ago. Lets hope it will be worth it as the people involved are top notch.
While Alien was famous for its strong female lead, this time we have two to choose from (Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron) and a bunch of guys to help them out and die along the way. But one question that matters most is this: will Fassbender’s David set the tone for the future of androids as Ash (Ian Holm) and Bishop (Lance Henriksen) did before? Only time will tell.
